Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
1. define vocabulary related to research.
2. analyze a sample research paper.
3. synthesize personal experiences into an essay.
Agenda:
1. Warm-Up: In their notebooks, students should answer the following questions: What do you know about the Hollywood writers' strike? Do you think that talk show hosts and actors need writers, or are they good enough speakers on their own? Ms. Kingsbury will solicit students for their answers.
2. Today's Vocabulary:
a. Enthusiasm: expressing your excitement and passion which shows a love for your topic
b. Works Cited Page: also known as a bibliography, this is the list of books, articles, and websites that you read to learn about your research topic
c. Citation: when you write your research paper, you internally cite the places you found your information so you aren't caught plagiarizing. You do this by putting, in parentheses, the name of the author who wrote the information that you are referencing.
3. Textbook: pages 216-220: Review a sample research paper and works cited page.
Homework: Students should continue working on their research papers, first or second drafts. Students should also type their transcript assessments.
