4. Notes: What is a thesis statement?
a. It is the main point and controlling idea of your paper.
b. It is the final sentence in your introduction paragraph.
c. It is NOT a statement of fact.
d. It is an assertion and opinion you have about your topic. It should make your reader say, “What? Really?!”

Examples of a thesis statement:
a. The violence rate in Philadelphia is increasing, because the government is not doing its job.
b. Football players deserve all the money they make, because they have special skills and provide a service to the public.
